Cleansing ritual with palo santo
This Palo Santo comes from the aromatic Palo Santo tree, also called the bursera graveolens and comes from Ecuador. Only bits of wood that have fallen from the tree or branches that have died are collected there. After this, the wood has to mature for 4-10 years before the magical scent is released. In this way, the trees themselves are spared, as they now have a protected status.
Purifying your home or yourself with Palo Santo is a beautiful ritual. For those who are familiar with my live meditation and relaxation session, know that I am a huge fan of Palo Santo. After all, I use it by default before the sessions. Palo Santo has been used for centuries by shamans in purification rituals, because it is attributed a healing effect. It is said to chase away evil spirits and has a beneficial effect on body and mind. Palo Santo is used for colds, flu, stress, asthma, headaches, anxiety, depression, inflammation, abdominal pain and rheumatism and can have a beneficial effect on this.
However, good smudging with palo santo is an art! It is a 100% natural material that does not just burn, like sage does. You can try using Palo Santo or holy wood as incense is used. As soon as you light it, a wonderfully sweet scent hits you. However, you will soon notice that palo santo does not glow for long, and therefore spreads that wonderfully smelling smoke.
How do you use holy wood?
Light the wood and make sure you keep the stick in the fire for quite some time. The core often really needs some time to warm up properly, especially the first time you burn it. As soon as you see that the core is warm, remove the stick from the fire and blow out the flame on deck. Now smoke is immediately released and you can use it for your cleansing ritual. The piece of wood does not glow for more than a few minutes, but that is often enough for the nice smell. Need more time (and smoke) for your ritual? Then light the stick again for more smoke.
